Ladadika

This historic district of particular importance, despite its small size, gives us a picture of how Thessaloniki was built before the fire of 1917. Today, having undergone a restoration process in the 1980s, Ladadika is one of the busiest areas of Thessaloniki, famous for its entertainment, housing many bars, nightclubs, restaurants, traditional taverns, where once there were oil shops and commercial warehouses.

The most popular aristocratic square of the city for visitors and residents alike. A jewel of the city, with great architecture of unparalleled beauty. The square was designed in 1917, immediately after the great fire by the French architect Ernest Hébrard, inspired by Italian and French influences, and completed between the 1950s and 1960s. Cafés, restaurants and shops along the whole length of the street are open at all hours of the day.

Louloudadika–Yahoudi Hammam

Flower Shops – Yahoudi Hammam

A quaint, small, multi-photographed area that cannot be missed at all! Its name is due to the outdoor flower shops it hosts. In the early 50’s, the Florists’ Association decided to house its planters’ flower shops. There is also the Yakhudi Hamam, a beautiful building reminiscent of Byzantine architecture! It is believed to have been built in the 16th century by Khalil Agha. It served as a bath for men and women. Today it hosts cultural events.

Market Modiano – Kapani

The Modiano Market, the Central Food Market, is one of the most important monuments and sights of the city that nowadays reaches almost a century. The market building was constructed by the architect J. Oliphant and the engineer and developer Eli Modiano, a covered traditional market, a tasty paradise in the heart of the city. Construction of the market began in 1922. It has recently been renewed, uniquely keeping the aesthetics of yesterday combined with modern aesthetics.  The Kapani, the oldest traditional market in Thessaloniki, is also of great interest, keeping its character until today. Are you a photography lover? The museum was established in 1998. In 2001, it was housed in Warehouse A’ at Pier A of the port of Thessaloniki. MOMus is supervised by the Ministry of Culture & Sports and simultaneously organizes an international photography festival every two years. Its activities are of national scope, while it has undertaken important initiatives for the presentation of Greek photography at an international level.
